3M developed the Filtrete Ultra Clean air purifier to meet the needs of consumers looking to improve their indoor air quality with less noise than some HEPA purifiers and a beautiful design that fits most any decor.  The Filtrete Ultra Clean air purifier combines the same clean air delivery rate as a HEPA purifier, and captures 99.9% of large particles with a quiet, sleek design... and is equipped with a filter life indicator that lights up when it’s time to change the filter.

The air purifier category has historically been made up of two types of purifiers: HEPA purifiers and tower units.  The HEPA purifiers, are effective at cleaning the air in a home, but most are large, bulky and not very attractive.  They have a powerful motor which circulates the air in a room, which most often makes them very noisy.  HEPA purifiers combine this high power motor with a high efficiency filter.  However, it can be difficult for the user to change the filter, as it often requires tools to remove the cover and other components holding the filter in its chamber.  Because of this challenge, some consumers may put off changing the filter – decreasing the air cleaning effectiveness of the unit.

The other common type of air purifier on the market is referred to as a tower unit.  One popular brand of tower unit is the Ionic Breeze.  These compact devices are typically much quieter than a noisy HEPA type, because they do not have the powerful motor for air circulation power.  They also use a metal collection plate to capture particles from the air.  And though some particles will be captured, without the circulation, they just don’t offer the level of air cleaning power that other room air cleaners offer.  Further, some tower models emit high levels of ozone, which the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has identified as potentially harmful.  For more information visit the Agency’s website at http://www.epa.gov/iaq/pubs/ozonegen.html#conclusions. Finally, the collection plate on the tower unit needs to be hand washed by the user.  Many are put off by this step.

The Filtrete Ultra Clean air purifier was designed to meet both the functional clean air delivery and the aesthetic appeal today’s consumer seeks.
