AsteriskRating Disclaimer

Reviewing products, like reviewing movies or restaurants, is arguably a subjective process (even for well-funded consumer groups) based on the review criteria (what the reviewer considers important) and the unique perspective of the reviewer. Thus, when considering The Healthy House Institute's reviews, please do not use the numerical product ratings (e.g., "9.5 out of 10") for direct product comparison purposes since these represent the unique 'take' of each reviewer, and will often vary qualitatively and quantitatively from product to product.

Do rely on the text of the reviews for issues to consider when purchasing similar products, and do consider the scientific data supplied (for example, information from the Carpet and Rug Institute's Seal of Approval-related research) that will help you in your decision making process. We believe the "truth" about products can only be discovered by weighing, then averaging, a number of factors and credible viewpoints based on available resources and science, then making buying decisions based on what is important to you.

Portable cutting power without messy gas or cords are the best reasons to consider this chainsaw. This saw was not designed to fell full grown, older trees. Its best use would be to prune branches (no bigger than 7” in diameter) and vines like jasmine or bumbleberry. We tried it out on a number of branches including oak, sugar maple, elm and eucalyptus. The good news here is that this chainsaw is so lightweight it's easy to position after each cut.

When using the chainsaw it’s important to remember that not all trees are alike. Oil and sap can vary with different types of trees, and you may have to clean the blade more often after cutting branches from a tree with sap or oil on the surface.

This saw is quiet. When in use, the saw is nowhere near as loud as a gas powered chainsaw.

Push a safety button prior to using the main starter button. The safety button is located on the side of the handle, making it more difficult for a child to access.

For cleaner cuts, use the saw at an angle instead of straight on. The blade will kick back and jam if not angled properly. (The kickback is slight and nothing that could not be managed by most users.)

A wraparound handle allows for multiple gripping positions. There is an onboard oiling feature with an easy-to-read meter for refills. Fill the oil chamber and after every cut push the button twice to oil blade for cleaner cuts.

To maintain the chainsaw, check for debris and clean if necessary. An onboard hex wrench enables easily removing the blade for cleaning. Also, store with the guide bar scabbard covering the blade.

All in all, this is a great addition to any tree or shrub care arsenal and one that you may use often.
