In 2007, the U.S. paid $14.7 billion in direct health care costs and another $5 billion in indirect costs (lost productivity) for a total of $19.7 billion. Most people would probably rather spend a little more and have a healthy house, than have an unhealthy house that makes them sick. The latter is just too expensive.
