According to Allen Rathey, president of The Healthy House Institute: "When responding to the news media, it's easy for us to talk about ventilation and the Home Ventilating Institute (HVI). For example, in February 2010, HRVs and ERVs were cited as one of five ways to create a healthy home in the Hilton Head Monthly article, A Healthy Home is a Happy Home. The article states: "Installing a ventilation system in your home is another way to clean the air, and is often a lifesaver if you or a family member suffers from allergies or asthma." In it Rathey says: "The best approach is to install a heat recovery ventilator or energy recovery ventilator, which ventilates the home using a fan and energy transfer mechanism so you don't lose heat in the winter or cool in the summer."
