According to Allen Rathey, president of The Healthy House Institute: "When responding to the news media, it's easy for us to talk about ventilation and the Home Ventilating Institute (HVI). We simply believe in HHI's mission – that fresh air through controlled ventilation while conserving energy is the right measure to help ensure healthy indoor environments."

Rathey says that of the dozens of media interviews the Institute conducts each year, including those conducted with ABC News, Woman’s World magazine and other media outlets, HVI is virtually always part of the conversation. "It's hard to imagine a discussion about healthy homes without discussing ventilation's importance." And while not every media interview results in an immediate direct print or published mention of HVI, Rathey believes editors and reporters remember what's emphasized – consciously or subconsciously – planting seeds for future press and educational opportunities.

For example, in February 2010, HRVs and ERVs were cited as one of five ways to create a healthy home in the Hilton Head Monthly article, A Healthy Home is a Happy Home. The article states: "Installing a ventilation system in your home is another way to clean the air, and is often a lifesaver if you or a family member suffers from allergies or asthma." In it Rathey says: "The best approach is to install a heat recovery ventilator or energy recovery ventilator, which ventilates the home using a fan and energy transfer mechanism so you don't lose heat in the winter or cool in the summer." Other HHI media outlets citing HVI and/or ventilation solutions have included Respiratory Management Magazine and Bottom Line Personal.

On a monthly basis, HHI publishes articles from The Home Ventilating Institute on HHI's home page, further emphasizing the value of ventilation and products enabling it.

HHI’s free public encyclopedia, HHI-Pedia, contains more than 200 ventilation entries and terms, many of them authored by and linking to HVI. Articles on the HHI Web site referencing ventilation terms also hotlink those terms to the corresponding HVI or ventilation definitions in HHI-Pedia.

Finally, on every content page of HHI - over 1,000 pages - the HVI logo and link are included at the header and footer of each page, taking HHI readers directly to the HVI Web site for more information. The HVI logo and link will also soon be included in a ventilation-related video from HHI's Web-based Video Vault to enable visitors to access additional and updated ventilation info from HVI.
